Completed Projects

2006: Development of an Optical Range Finder

This project was completed by Thomas Richter and Andreas Zagorski. The project was co-supervised by Dr. Yuri Panarin of the School of Electronic and Communications Engineering and Dr. Jurgen Krauser of the University of Applied Sciences Leipzig. A picture of the two PCBs developed for the range finder are shown below:

2006: Development of an Optical Range Finder

DT080 students Niall Smith and Olivier Tchalekian developed an optical range finder which was automated using a Labview interface which communicated with a Tektronix oscilloscope. A picture of their setup together with the Labview interface is shown below:

2006: Development of a Photodiode Model

DT008 students Vishal Modi and Cathal Elder developed a general photodiode model which was used for several various sized diodes. A picture of their setup for testing the diodes is shown below:

2006: Distance Measuring Using Light

DT089 students Ali Fard and David O'Connor used optical transmitters and receivers to measure the lengths of various fibres. A picture of their setup is shown below:

2005: Investigation of Photoreceiver Front-End Design

DT008 student Jill O'Donnell investigated and compared various photoreceiver front end designs. A picture of Jill's setup for investigating her designed photoreceivers using a commercial transceiver and plastic optical fibre is shown below:
